Aesthetic concern

Breast volume.

Whether you have always wanted more fullness or are restoring what pregnancy and weight changes took away, the right result is the one that suits your frame — not the largest one.

Overview

Fullness that fits.

Loss or lack of upper-breast fullness is one of the most common reasons patients come in. Pregnancy, breastfeeding, and weight fluctuation can deflate the breast, while others simply want more proportion than they were born with.

Dr. Kirwan plans volume around your chest width, tissue, and lifestyle, reviewing implant type and placement or fat transfer, and uses photographs of his own patients to show what is realistic for your anatomy.

Contributing factors

Why volume changes.

Pregnancy

The breast enlarges then deflates after breastfeeding, often losing upper-pole fullness.

Weight change

Because the breast is largely fatty tissue, weight loss can noticeably reduce its size.

Natural anatomy

Some patients simply desire more proportion or want to balance a natural asymmetry.

Time

Tissue and skin change with age, softening shape and fullness over the years.

What you might notice

What patients describe.

Upper pole

  • Flattening or hollowing
  • Loss of cleavage
  • Clothing no longer fills out

Volume

  • Smaller after breastfeeding
  • Shrinkage after weight loss
  • Never had the fullness wanted

Symmetry

  • One breast smaller
  • Uneven shape
  • Different positions on the chest

Confidence

  • Avoiding certain clothing
  • Feeling out of proportion
  • Wanting to feel like yourself again

Treatment options

Two ways to restore it.

  • Breast augmentation

Implants or, in select cases, your own fat add size and improve shape and symmetry, planned around your frame and goals.

  • Breast lift with augmentation

When volume loss comes with sagging, combining a lift restores both position and upper-pole fullness.

  • Fat injections

Fat transfer can add modest, natural fullness or refine contour for the right candidate.

Questions

Common questions.

How do I choose the right size?

Sizing is based on your chest measurements, tissue, and the look you want in and out of clothing. Dr. Kirwan uses sizers and imaging so you decide with realistic expectations.

Implants or my own fat?

Implants give reliable, predictable volume; fat transfer adds a more limited, natural increase. The right choice depends on your anatomy and goals, which is decided together.

Will I need a lift too?

Only if the breasts have descended. If the nipple sits below the crease, adding a lift gives a better shape than volume alone.

Can I still breastfeed later?

Many patients can, depending on technique and incision. It is an important point to raise so the plan protects that priority.

Next step

Find your proportion.

A consultation with sizing and imaging lets you see fullness on your own frame before you commit to anything.
