Overview

About the procedure.

Diet- and exercise-resistant fat, loose skin, stretch marks, and loss of muscle tone are common after pregnancy, childbirth, and weight loss — and the most disciplined routine cannot reverse them. A tummy tuck removes excess skin and fat, rearranges the belly button, and repairs the stomach muscles split during pregnancy. Most stretch marks above the navel are removed as well.

Beyond appearance, tightening the abdominal muscles increases core strength, improves posture, and narrows the waist, recreating a youthful “S” curve. Dr. Kirwan uses a drainless technique with progressive tension sutures for enhanced comfort and a lower risk of fluid collection.

The technique

Considered, not templated.

  • A concealed incision.

The incision sits below the upper panty line, easily hidden in underwear or a bikini bottom, with a second small opening shaped around the navel.

  • Muscle repair.

The vertical abdominal muscles are sewn back together, repairing the gap in the linea alba for a flatter, stronger core.

  • Re-draping and a natural navel.

Excess skin and fat are removed, the skin is re-draped, and a new, natural-looking navel is fashioned. Liposuction contours the abdomen and flanks.

  • Drainless closure.

Progressive tension sutures beneath the skin remove the need for drains, speed healing, and reduce the risk of seromas.

How do I know whether I am a candidate?

Candidacy depends on your health, anatomy, and goals, not a specific age. The only way to know for certain is a one-on-one consultation, where your medical history and aesthetic goals are reviewed and the appropriate options are explained.
