What Happens During Fat Injection Surgery
Surgery is normally performed under conscious sedation with local infiltration anesthesia or general anesthesia. Dr. Kirwan will perform the surgery as discussed in your consultation.
Fat Injection Procedure Options
Dr. Kirwan may perform one of several techniques, such as:
BBL alone
- Ideal for patients who have no other associated problems.
- Surgery is done under local anesthesia, with conscious sedation or general anesthesia.
- Fat is suctioned from the hips and thighs to contour the outline of the buttocks.
- Fat is processed, filtered, and loaded into syringes for reinjection.
- Fat is then re-injected into the buttocks.
- Outcome: volume enhancement of the buttocks.
- Length: 2 to 3 hours.
BBL combined with another procedure
- BBL patients desiring liposuction of other areas such as tummy, inner thighs and knees.
- Surgery is done under local anesthesia with conscious sedation or general anesthesia.
- Fat is suctioned from the hips and thighs and additional areas.
- Fat is processed, filtered, and loaded into syringes for reinjection.
- Fat is then re-injected into the buttocks.
- Outcome: volume enhancement of the buttocks and contouring of other areas.
- Length: varies depending on the additional procedures.
Fat Injection Results and Recovery
It may take some time to fully recover and see your results. However, many patients can return to work or their daily activities in 7 to 10 days and resume other activities (like playing sports and working out) in approximately three weeks. A special garment is worn after BBL. The garment is worn for two weeks day and night and then during the day for two more weeks.
After surgery, there is swelling and bruising. There are no drains and no stitches after surgery. You will see changes soon after surgery, but it can take at last 6 months to see the final result.
