Dr. Laurence Kirwan MD, FRCS, FACS
Dr. Laurence Kirwan is Board Certified in Plastic Surgery. He is a recognized international leader in Aesthetic Plastic Surgery of the face, breast and body. He offers a superior level of knowledge, care and understanding to help you achieve the improvement you desire.
Dr. Kirwan is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS). This is the only Board of Plastic Surgery recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties. He is also a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons and Professor of Plastic Surgery of the International School of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery at the University of Belgrade. Dr. Kirwan has published numerous original scientific papers and given many scientific courses at national and international plastic surgery meetings.
Dr. Kirwan was born in Liverpool, England. He graduated in Medicine from Manchester University, and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England. Dr. Kirwan trained in General Surgery in England, Australia and the United States. He completed a Fellowship in Hand Surgery at the University of Colorado in Denver. Dr. Kirwan completed his Residency in Plastic Surgery at the University of Missouri, Kansas City.
Dr. Kirwan was an Instructor for the Aesthetic Surgery Fellowship program at New York Eye and Ear Infirmary from 1996 until 2016. He is currently a Preceptor for the Surgical Physician Assistant program at Norwalk Hospital, sponsored by the Yale New Haven Health System.
Dr. Kirwan performs surgery under Local Anesthesia with Conscious Sedation at has his own Norwalk surgical facility accredited by the American Association for Ambulatory Surgical Facilites (AAAASF). Dr. Kirwan is affiliated with Greenwich and Norwalk Hospitals.
YOUR CONSULTATION
Your consultation with Dr. Kirwan is a one-on-one evaluation. Dr. Kirwan will ask you about your medical history and your aesthetic concerns. Dr. Kirwan will explain and recommend the procedures that will help you to achieve your goals. He will show you pictures of his own patients, before and after surgery to help illustrate the procedures he has discussed.
Dr. Kirwan will explain your options for anesthesia and the location of your incisions. You will be given extensive instructions for your care both before and after surgery. Dr. Kirwan makes a point of reviewing the surgical plan on a second occasion, at least thirty days before surgery, when you return to the office for a ‘history and physical. In Dr. Kirwan’s experience, every patient benefits from a further review after the initial consultation.
Dr. Kirwan’s nurse will call you the day before surgery to confirm your surgical appointment and to ensure that you are prepared for the procedure and that you understand all of your postoperative instructions. Dr. Kirwan will also discuss your plan for surgery on the day of the procedure so that you are reassured that you and he both understand the procedure and the results that you want to achieve.
Dr. Kirwan telephones his patients the night after surgery, both to check on their progress and to answer any questions they may have. Dr. Kirwan sees his patients the day after surgery and at every follow-up appointment thereafter. Dr. Kirwan performs surgery in his AAAASF accredited surgical center at Kirwan Plastic Surgery in Norwalk, Connecticut ensuring that his patients receive the benefit of his internationally renowned experience. Patients who are unsuitable for office-based surgery due to underlying medical conditions are treated at Norwalk or Greenwich Hospitals on an ambulatory same day surgical basis.
Dr. Kirwan’s superior level of knowledge, care and understanding over many years has made him a renowned and sought-after plastic surgeon in Connecticut. He has successfully performed over 10,000 surgeries for both women and men including plastic surgery of face, body, and breast.
He has featured in over a 100 magazines and newspaper articles around the world and has published several books. In 2022, Dr. Kirwan published a Guide for Surgical Assistants. Dr. Kirwan has treated many celebrities in his career and was named as Ulrika Jonsson’s breast reduction surgeon in Hello Magazine. Dr. Kirwan is, however, well known for his discretion in treating many people in the public eye who prefer to avoid publicity.

Kirwan practiced in Harley Street, London from 1996 until 2016 and was named in Tatler’s Cosmetic Surgery Guide Top Surgeons for five successive years and listed in the Evening Standard’s London’s 1,000 Most Influential People.
