Dr. Laurence Kirwan, MD, FRCS, FACS

Dr. Laurence Kirwan is board certified in plastic surgery and recognized internationally as a leader in aesthetic surgery of the face, breast, and body. He brings a depth of knowledge, care, and technical precision to every consultation, with the goal of helping each patient achieve the specific improvement they’re looking for.

He is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS) - the only plastic surgery board recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties. He also holds a Fellowship with the Royal College of Surgeons and serves as Professor of Plastic Surgery at the International School of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, University of Belgrade. Over the course of his career, he has published numerous original scientific papers and presented at national and international plastic surgery meetings.

Training and Background

Dr. Kirwan was born in Liverpool, England, and graduated in medicine from Manchester University. He trained in general surgery across England, Australia, and the United States, completed a hand surgery fellowship at the University of Colorado in Denver, and finished his plastic surgery residency at the University of Missouri, Kansas City.

From 1996 to 2016, he served as an instructor for the Aesthetic Surgery Fellowship program at New York Eye and Ear Infirmary. He currently serves as a preceptor for the Surgical Physician Assistant program at Norwalk Hospital, sponsored by the Yale New Haven Health System.

Surgery is performed under local anesthesia with conscious sedation at his own AAAASF-accredited (American Association for Ambulatory Surgical Facilities) surgical facility in Norwalk. He is affiliated with both Greenwich and Norwalk Hospitals, and patients whose medical history makes office-based surgery unsuitable are treated at one of these hospitals on an ambulatory, same-day basis instead.

You’ll also get a clear walkthrough of your anesthesia options and incision placement, along with detailed instructions for pre- and post-operative care. As standard practice, the surgical plan is reviewed a second time roughly 30 days before surgery, at a dedicated history-and-physical appointment - a step that consistently helps patients feel more confident going into their procedure.

The office follows up the day before surgery to confirm details and answer any last questions about post-operative care, and again on the morning of the procedure to walk through the plan one more time. After surgery, expect a personal phone call that same night to check on your progress, an in-person visit the following day, and continued follow-up at every subsequent appointment.

With over 10,000 surgeries performed across face, body, and breast procedures for both women and men, Dr. Kirwan has built a reputation as one of Connecticut’s most sought-after plastic surgeons. His work has been featured in more than 100 magazines and newspaper articles worldwide, and in 2022 he published a guide for surgical assistants.

He has treated a number of well-known patients over the years, including performing breast reduction surgery for Ulrika Jonsson, as reported in Hello Magazine - though he’s equally known for the discretion he extends to patients in the public eye who prefer to keep their care private.

He’s listed in Wikipedia, Debrett’s People of Today, and Who’s Who, and practiced on Harley Street in London from 1996 to 2016, where he was named to Tatler’s Cosmetic Surgery Guide Top Surgeons for five consecutive years and included in the Evening Standard’s London’s 1,000 Most Influential People list. He has also been named one of the Top 20 Plastic Surgeons Worldwide by Russian Vogue and was featured in Beyond Black Publications’ The World’s Top Surgeons & Clinics.
