You don’t have to get implants to improve the appearance of your breasts. With Dr. Laurence Kirwan’s pioneering auto augmentation approach, you can naturally lift and restore full contours to your breasts without implants.
People travel the world over to Kirwan Plastic Surgery in Norwalk, Connecticut, to benefit from this procedure, which is a combination of his own techniques as well as approaches pioneered by Drs. Giovanni Botti and Ruth Maria Graft. Dr. Kirwan is known for introducing new surgical procedures, which elevate the patient experience and outcomes while minimizing the drawbacks associated with conventional surgical techniques. This approach is known as “breast auto augmentation” or BAA.
“Auto” as a prefix in any word refers to “self.” So, any time you see this in the medical world, know it is referring to the use of your own tissues and other parts of your body. This definition is really the basis for BAA; Dr. Kirwan expertly uses the patient’s own tissue to enhance the size and shape of the breasts, no implants required.
In the past, the breast lift process had its limitations. For this reason, the process is typically performed in two steps: the lift, eliminating excess skin, and the implant, providing the actual volume or augmentation. With BAA, we can support a lifted appearance and fuller contours in one procedure. That’s because Dr. Kirwan can remove excess tissue and reposition the breasts through innovative techniques to support a fuller, elevated appearance. Dr. Kirwan’s approach overcomes the challenge of a flat, depressed upper pole or top portion of the rest. He can achieve balanced contours and a fuller, more rounded appearance in this area, and the results look natural.

BAA is most appropriate for women who have adequate tissue, but are bothered by primary or secondary ptosis (sagging). Both conditions can make breasts look small and long, but with primary ptosis, the breast’s glandular tissue and the nipple and areola descend together. Secondary ptosis occurs when the nipple falls further or at a faster rate than the surrounding glandular tissue. This sagging can occur over time due to aging and the effects of gravity, as well as considerable weight gain and loss, and hormonal changes brought on by pregnancy and menopause.
Yes! In fact, BAA is made for this scenario. When your implants are removed due to either personal preferences or complications such as capsular contracture, the deflated tissue left behind can create a shallow, hollow, or empty appearance in the upper portions of the breast. We can take your own tissue in the rounded lower part of the breast and use it to naturally augment or restore the deflated upper breast. This process also creates an attractive teardrop shape.
Many of our treatments at Kirwan Plastic Surgery are complementary. They work well with each other to optimize your results. For instance, Dr. Kirwan can further refine the shape and augmentation of your breasts with fat injections. This technique provides additional contouring and the ultimate in breast enhancement.
