Selecting an internationally recognized, board-certified plastic surgeon like Dr. Laurence Kirwan supports the safety and quality of facelifts and other treatments. Due to Dr. Kirwan’s talent, experience, and techniques, the results from your procedure look natural and are “durable” (can last a long time). How you care for your skin and body, and what you do after your treatment at Kirwan Plastic Surgery in Norwalk, Connecticut, also matters. Your habits and behaviors can either help or hinder the healing process and the sustainability of your renewed appearance.
As an example, other clinics may market “mini-facelifts.” While these approaches may imply shorter scars and a faster recovery, the results are typically minimal. And, of interest to those concerned about the longevity of treatments and who want to maximize their results, these “mini-lifts” are also of minimal duration. Dr. Kirwan only performs standard facelifts, with the noteworthy exception of mini-facelifts as a secondary procedure to correct premature skin relaxation following a full facelift. Early wrinkling may occur when individuals in their late 60s or older with severely lax skin undergo a facelift for the first time. By doing things right the first time, our team helps to position you for success. You can enjoy natural-looking results for many years to come.

Even with Dr. Kirwan’s considerable skill and experience, no facelift results last forever – nothing does. Our team’s expertise effectively resets the clock but doesn’t stop it entirely. Your skin will continue to lose its firmness and elasticity. As this process occurs, you may notice in the years following treatment that your youthful facelift now features noticeable wrinkling. For this reason, we encourage individuals to pursue a facelift while their skin is still elastic, when it can conform to its natural shape after being stretched. This generally means undergoing a facelift when you are younger; however, if you have a history of taking good care of your skin and have otherwise taken an aggressive approach to anti-aging, you may be able to delay a facelift until you are in your 60s or older. Again, it depends on the quality of your skin.
Avoid or minimize many of the controllable factors that contribute to signs of aging and sun damage and lead to the need for a facelift in the first place. The No. 1 thing you can do is practice sun protection and avoidance measures. Eating a nutritious diet, avoiding smoking, and other healthy lifestyle practices sustain the results from treatment from the inside out. We can also advise on complementary skin care and non-surgical procedures to get more “life” out of your facelift.
It’s a fallacy that once you’ve had one facelift, that’s all you can do or will ever need. As noted above, the aging process continues. We allow you to start over in some respects, reversing signs of aging. However, the effects of gravity, the continued breakdown of structural supports within the skin, and environmental factors can degrade the youthful results in the years following treatment. If you are concerned about changes in the appearance of your skin, Dr. Kirwan can evaluate those concerns and may recommend non-surgical or surgical interventions to allow you to continue to look and feel your best.
